In short: ShotGIF collects nothing. It has no analytics, no tracking, no account, and makes no network requests of any kind.
What ShotGIF stores
ShotGIF stores a small amount of data locally on your Mac, using the standard
macOS preferences system (UserDefaults). This never leaves your device
and is never transmitted anywhere. It consists only of:
- Your chosen save folder for screenshots and recordings (if you've changed it from the default)
- Your preferred maximum recording length
- Your preferred recording frame rate
- Your chosen export format (GIF or MP4)
- Whether High-Quality GIF Encoding is turned on
- Whether GIFs loop forever or play once
- Whether you've completed the app's one-time welcome screen
Your screenshots and recordings
Captured screenshots and GIF recordings are saved directly to a folder on your
Mac that you control (by default, ~/Pictures/ShotGIF). ShotGIF never
uploads, transmits, or has any access to these files beyond writing them to that
folder and copying them to your clipboard.
Permissions
ShotGIF requests macOS Screen Recording permission, which is required by Apple's ScreenCaptureKit framework for any app that captures the screen. This permission is used solely to perform the capture you initiate — it is never used in the background and nothing is recorded without your explicit action (clicking Screenshot/Record GIF, or using the keyboard shortcuts).
Third parties
ShotGIF does not integrate with, or send data to, any third-party service, analytics provider, or advertising network.
